Something for the baby this year

Well, this morning I realized I should probably make at least one thing for the baby in 2010. So this is what I came up with. I had some other patterns for some other cute booties, but these were the ones I had all the colors for.

So now our baby has Ugg boots, she won't be able to wear them for quite a while, but that's okay since she should be big enough to wear them for next winter.

I also decided that it's kinda hard to make baby booties, when you aren't exactly sure what your baby's foot is going to look like. Oh well, Sam said we could always put her in 3 pairs of socks and then these booties.

Happy New Year everyone!

White Christmas

Well, we couldn't have asked for a whiter Christmas in Ruby Valley. It snowed all week, then on Christmas Eve we had fog all day. This morning the horses wandered over to our house through the fog to say Merry Christmas, or maybe they were just looking for breakfast.
The fog finally lifted late Christmas morning, leaving everything covered in hoarfrost (or pogonip if you prefer) Usually the wind or sun makes quick work of the frost, but we stayed cold enough that it stayed all day.
Then at sundown we were treated to this beautiful light show. We may envy our southern-dwelling relatives most of the winter, but they don't get to see many days like this.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Almost home

We got the final inspection on the house this week and got our certificate of occupancy. there's still a few more things to finish up, but it's liveable now. Here's a pictures to update you as of May 1st. (Yes, it's snowing in the pictures) Most of the siding is done. As you can see we have just a bit more to wrap up the outside, but we should finish next week.Bill and Rachel finished the deck, railing and all. They had to finish the handrail on the back of the house to pass the inspection. Thanks for all the long hours they put in.
We've got just a little more siding on the gables of the house and some soffit to finish.
Here's what the finished porch deck looks like.

It was a busy week. The granite got here Wednesday, which meant the plumbers could come on Thursday. We were cutting it close trying to get our final inspection by the end of April, but we made it with a lot of help.
A lot of late night and early mornings as Mary, I, Adam and dad finished putting in lights and outlets. I can wire a three-way and four-way switch now, so that's cool. We were wiring up until the time the building inspector got there. We finished just in time. Here you can see our ceiling fans and to the right is a cove heater.
Here's some of the finished plumbing fixtures.
The master bathroom vanity.
The guest bathroom sink.
The guest bathroom shower.

A big post

We're almost finished with the house. We're planning to do the final inspection this coming Friday, but we've still got a bunch to do before then. We're getting countertops Wednesday, which we need so we can finish the plumbing on Thursday. We'll still have a few things to finish up after the final inspection, but the house should technically be livable by the end of the week.

We haven't updated in a couple of weeks, so we've been accumulating a bunch of pictures.

This first one is of Mary getting the first taste of water from our well. It tastes like good Ruby Valley water.
Let there be lights. We were quite proud of getting these lights to work. We had to install two three ways and a four way switch. Luckily the electrician had labeled all the wires, so once we figured out the concept of the three-way switch it was easy.
This was the last of the flooring to go down. Sam did this one himself. It was vinyl floor planks that stuck together.
And finally we can safely work around the stairwell. Bill and Rachel put up this nice oak handrail. Looks beautiful.
Now that the flooring is done the doors can go back up. Maybe by next week we'll even have doorknobs.
Before I did the vinyl flooring the carpet installers the carpet installers put down this carpet in the bedrooms and the stairs. It sure makes a difference in making the house feel finished.
And we've got all the cabinets in, just waiting for countertops.

A couple of our neighbors installed our bathroom tile for us. It's travertine with porcelain and glass tile for decoration.

Floor, what is it good for?

Here's a look at the wood floor we just finished laying down.We used Australian Cypress. It looks a lot like cedar. A lot of variation in the grain and color.
It's shiny. We can't wait until the house is finished so we can run and slide in our socks.
It's moving along. Hopefully tomorrow I can post pictures of the bathroom tile.

The joys of being a dog

Who's herding who? Alice can sure draw a crowd. All those staring eyes make her a bit nervous.
Of course, a dog's life must be all right when you can get so much pleasure from the simple things, like sticking your head out of the window of a moving car.

Long over due update

Here are some newer pictures. Some from the final painting look, some siding, decking, and the well guy here putting in our pump. Now the floors are going in but we don't have any pictures yet.

Sam's Bad Day

Sam called me after work and said he was having kind of a blah day. So I took it upon myself to try to make his day better.
This is what I came up with...

A triple chocolate cake, with a strawberry cream cheese (made with the strawberry jam I canned in the summer) layer in the middle, chocolate cream cheese frosting, shaved Dove dark chocolate, and decorated with mini M&M's. He smiled.

ranch roundup

On Sunday Mary helped me on the ranch. We just got back from stake conference and hadn't gone home to change, hence the neon green garb. First Mary helped milk out a cow.
Then we checked heifers and stopped by to see Fancy.
We also noticed the white horse Sugar is sporting a rather disturbing mustache

sheetrock done

We finished up the sheetrocking last week. Well our drywall contractor did anyway. Here's a look at our big old garage and our main kitchen, dining, living room.

We started on the deck last week too. Bill and rachel got one side put down, but put the porch on hold to start trimming the inside. Anyway, that's our garapa porch. It's a Brazilian hardwood.

We had twins!

When I say we I mean this cow had twins. They're cute when they're babies.

drywall and insulation

Here's our progress as of Tuesday. The sheetrock is really making the house take shape.
Here's the kitchen dining and living room.
We did a blow in fiberglass insulation. It sure makes the house feel warm.
Here's what the master bedroom looks like from one angle.
