Alice update

Alice is nearly full grown now (hopefully). Here's a picture of her playing a game she picked up from Shadow. It's called the stick game. She gets a stick and then plays keepaway with you. You can keep her quite entertained by halfheartedly chasing her around.
She's part blue heeler and part something else. I was thinking maybe part lab. Any other ideas?
Side note from Mary - anyone else thinking, "Put that stick down, you'll poke your eye out!" ?

House update

We're getting ready to lay down shingles this week and start on electrical and plumbing. Here's a few pics of the house to show the progress so far.
You can see the overall shape of the house now with all the sheathing down.
Mary's showing off the shelf we'll have in the living room. It wasn't in the original plan, but the truss makers decided to do their own thing and we ended up with shelf. It's kind of growing on us. We have big plans for it.

You can see we'll have plenty if room in our gee-roj. Bill built the landing and steps this week so its easier getting in and out of the garage.

A Busy Roof Day

Well, like Sam said in the last post, we've been working on the roof lately. On Saturday I went down there and ended up being the one who was using the nail gun to get all the sheating on. So here are some pictures of what things look like now. :)

Sam on the roof
Mary on the roof, I was called a pirate all day
What the house looks like from the road
This is all the sheating I nailed down on the roof, it was really high and steep!
I tried to get a picture of the south side of the house to show the sheating there, you can't really tell but we did get quite a bit done.
That's all for now!

Raising the Roof

We took a couple of weeks off from house building for Christmas, and when we got back the first task was to put on the roof. First we to finish the wraparound porch, which went fast.
Our first plan was to get the boom truck out on Thursday to set the trusses, but with snow in the forecast we hustled to get ready and got Elko Truss Co. out on Wednesday instead. It was raining for the four hours they were there, but at least it wasn't snowing or icy.Emilio from Elko Truss was quite nimble climbing up and down the walls. I was kind of glad it wasn't me up there.Miguel worked the boom. He was efficient and didn't knock anyone off the wall. So that was nice.
It took only a couple of hours and we were done with the trusses on the house. The garage was next.
