Total Eclipse of the Heart

We had an eclipse party yesterday. No it didn't have anything to do with Stephanie Meyers third novel.
We went out on our front porch yesterday to view the near total eclipse. We wore a welding helmet to look at the sun. That way we didn't look like weirdos .... too much. Only a few people drove past.

Our little girl wasn't quite sure why we were looking at the inside of a helmet, but she feigned interest to make us happy.

She was much more interested in trying to leave the porch so she could try out her new hobby of rock collecting. She seems more interested in tasting every rock, so that keeps us on our feet.

This is the view of the eclipse through the welding helmet. As you can see is came close to a full eclipse. It was a little surreal as we walked around outside. It got a little darker as the eclipse progressed, so it was felt like we were wearing sunglasses. We also tried putting a small hole in a piece of paper and focusing it on the side of the house to see the eclipse.

cool! We had to just make do with the piece of paper trick. Not nearly as satisfying. It was SO tempting to just look at the eclipse! :-)

Sweet! You are very smart to use the helmet! Unfortunately we totally missed it here on the east coast :(
